Please reply with any data pertaining to toxic mold exposure and neurological symptoms. Doctors have been stumped but intrigued. Please help.

I have a question regarding toxic mold….Say a person who hates doing laundry dumps a load of clothes in a xtra large plastic container that are very wert, and say that person has the container sealed with lid that fits completely locking in the wet clothes in the container for over a year, more? Upon opening the container it was 100% black and the smell was un-real. Did that person release toxic spores that can live with out the original starting point of growth? What are the symtoms and how to find out ect,
George_Christodoulou on August 27th, 2007 at 1:38 am #
I believe mold can live in that bag with the wet clothes. The human body can take a small amount of toxic mold spores, so if you were able to get those clothes out of that room fast enough, you should be fine. In any case, you should get some kind of remediation kit that can detect mold…and also check yourself out by a doctor or some kind of mold professional.

my daughter has been exposed to mold for some time and didnt know untill they had heavy rain and the ceiling fell down to expose black mold in the isulation. They had a real wet spring befor the heavy rain. She became sick about two days before. And was diagnosed with broncitis. After the ceiling came down she cleaned it up and then became much sicker and could not work. they diagnosed her with ashma and treated her for it with inhalers and antibiotics and steriods. Her health continued to fail and now she is in the hospital being treated for emphysema. they are doing fungal tests. Her breathing is so labored she can hardly talk. Doctors still dont know what to do.She is 32 years old and very healthy. She worked construction until three weeks ago and now cant hardly breath

My daughter is 2 and we have lived in the same place for all her life. And she has been chronically ill for the last year and a half. Its constant fatigue, flu like symptoms, irritabiility…the doctos it suggesting we get our house tested for mold….would this be a good idea?
George_Christodoulou on October 14th, 2007 at 3:48 pm #
I think that’s a very good idea. Many people have no idea mold can cause so many problems, but it can. I would get a test even if it costs money to get a professional…and If you have mold you will need to clean it, which will cost more money…
The problem could also come from dust. Try opening the windows (unless it’s too cold) or try to live with a family member until the problem is resolved.
Please keep us updated.

Without a doubt, mold can rob you of a happy and and healthy life, and like the reports say, it can cause slight allergy symptoms such as the sniffles, all the way to what it has done to me. A very large mold area was discovered at my workplace in Feb. of this year in a room that was used as a wound care debriedment and exam room but also used as a workroom. This room was adjacent to a restroom that had a toilet overflowing many times with fecal, urine, blood, vomit, and left for many hours before clean up took place. The amount of black/green mold solid thick 3ft by 2 ft was discovered behind a cabinet during a re-arrangement of this room . When
reported, it was then mandated that we were to continue to work out of this room, but not to put patients in this room due to unsanitary issues. I have become one of the not so fortunate persons, as my exposure was often and lengthy. 3 weeks went by and all that had been done was a plastic cover with blue tape supposedly to keep it from spreading. as the door was opened, you guessed it! plastic hit the floor and I went into a SPORE BATH. I suffered a mental episode lasting months with horrible migrains and nightmares. I have constant tremors and I am now told I have Fibromyalgia,Depression and MCS, with lab results showing Thyroid dammage and so much more. I could go on and on. And not one Dr. wants to even discuss the MOLD. I think back over the last year how many of my seemingly healthy co workers have become ill and some have died. I am left somewhere in the middle, with a living torture of continuous numbness, buzzing, stinging, stabbing, painful nightmare hoping to find help and relief.

I have had a history of allergies, asthma and bronchitis. The symptons seemed to be under control with inhalers. However, I have been having more problems in all the above for nearly a year now. Coincidentally ,the ceiling in my bathroom began to leak above my toilet. I have neighbors above me and thier toilet is also in the same location as mine. After many months of complaining to the land lord, he finaaly sent a repairman. What it turned out to be was the seal on the upstairs toilet had been leaking through the sheet rock into my ceiling and evetually it became so bad that the sheetrock cracked and the water was literally dripping into my bathroom everytime the toilet wsa flushed. The sheetrock has been removed and the amount of mold was nauseating not to mention the smell. Now heres my question; I’ve had stomach and intestinal problems for about a week. They began when the leak got worse and the landlord finally did something .Could I be suffering from the effects of the festering mold in my ceiling and could the symptoms have gotten worse as the leak became worse? And is there a way to prove that the landlords neglect is in some way responsible? I kept the molding ceiling debris to show my landlord. My daughter thinks I should be compensated.I really do think it all fits together very neatly, the timeline of events. I am concerned about the loose stools that I cant seem to shake

I have been living in the same place for 2 years now. I have a long history of asthma and recent diagnosis of COPD. I have two small children and they have always been normally healthy. My room mate states he has never been one to have cold’s, flu’s, allergy’s, etc. Since living in this house we have found mold in the closet where the heating and air conditioner is after it leaked and the landlord took their time to fix it (approx. 3 months). They just washed the wall with bleach and painted over it but you can still see the blank mold bleeding thru the paint. We have mold in the chalking around the tub, and in the attached storage room on the wall next to the living room wall the wall is decaying and nearly gone and you can smell the mold in the storage room. In the living room not to long ago the wall next to the storage unit was deamed to be leaking from the roof to the floor and one of the floor studs had to be replaced because of the leak which keep in mind was the same wall next to the storage room. a couple of weeks ago, I went to the ER because I was having pain in my lower left side as if I was trying to pass a kidney stone (I have had a stone before). At the ER they did a CT scan from my next to my bottom and found nothing to be causing the pain that had me bent doubled and moaning in intense pain, but they found numerous nocalcified nodules in the bases of both of my lungs and advised me to see my PCP asap to be referred to a speacialist to determine if I have lung cancer. A CT scan done on 11/22/06 showed nothing of the sort wrong with my lungs. I have a pulmonary DR. on 12/10/07 to follow up with this CT findings. My fear is this in from mold and the chance that my family has been exposed to to much mold. All of us have fatigue sysmptoms, I and my roommate have congnitive problems to the point I have returned to seeing a counselor and I am back on depression meds, I have extreme mood swings and have had multiple times entire body aching as if I had the flu (just went thru 2 days of my entire body aching to the point I wished I was dead to get away from the pain. I once was obesed to the point I cound not stand or perform my daily ADL’S with out assistance from my child and husband at the time and my pain then was as intense as the pain I experienced the past 2 days and I thought I had progressed passed days of pain like that when I had my gastric-bypass and now weight 182.) I also have a problem with throwing up and gross episodes of pain to the point of extreme weakness and sweating to the point I look as if I just got out of a bath or pool and I have had numerous test, even one that I was having the spell while under going the MRI and finding were negative. Now the bypass DR wants to do exploratory surgery on me for he feels that I am throwing up from a defect of my bypass, but I have read that throwing up is a mould sysptom. My children have been having sinus problems, headaches, fatigue, congested noses frequently since living in this house. Alot of what I have been reading out here on the net seem to be related to sysptoms in my household. I even have some friends that state that when they come to see me and stay for the day or maybe spend the night they have sysptoms of colds and flu for a few days or even weeks after leaving my house. Anybody have an opinon to my situation I have described or have you been in this type of situation?

Until you can clean it up or get out, please follow diet guidelines for Candidiasis, and use herbs. Candidiasis is when yeast/molds overgrowthis in your body making you ill in many ways. Don’t eat wheat and sugar, mainly- eat meat and vegetables. And lots of onion, garlic and cayenne. This gives the mold nothing to live off in your body. Very important. The onion, garlic and cayenne help kill it off and improve your immune system. Also important are pau d’arco herb, caprylic acid and grapefruitseed extract. The latter will stop bowel problems and diarrhea! And eat your yogurt.
Doctors still don’t recognize mold as the cause of your symptoms and will give you antibiotics which will make it worse.
Please read up on Candiasis and follow the diet. It sucks but you will feel so much better and can then do something about the mold problem since you have the energy to fight.
Mold was in my air condition and on the refridgerator. I thought I was going to die. Felt so bad I wanted to. The diet saved my life. And when I visit people with mold issues, the herbs keep me from succumbing again.

My family and I have lived in a house for seven months now, renting it for 550.00 a month with a one year lease. Our children which are 2 and 4 have been sick since we’ve been there. My 2 year old has a continuous sinus infections that antibiotics won’t kill. My 4 year old has asthma but has had bad wheezing and coughing since we’ve been there. My husband and I have also kept flu like symptoms. We discovered black mold spots in our bathroom where we keep our towels. We are going to move asap to save our kids. My question is can my landlord sue me for the rest of our lease?

I have been working in a toxic environment for 6 months and I became very ill. The Dr said it was asthma and pluerisy. It wasn’t until I discovered the mold that I seeked the help of a Toxicologist. You must see a specialized DR. They can help u get better. I also take what Sarah recommended and it helps. There are a few things you can do at home to help yourself. Do anything you can to eliminate stress your immune system is very fragil right now. Go to your local health food store and buy oregano leaf oil or pills, this is an immune boost, get Solaray’s Yeast-Cleanse, and Eclectic Institute’s Vita-biotic. Also, DIET is crucial mold if mold is living in your body stay away from anything it can live off of or it will spread and get worse. Please take care of yourself and educate…this is very serious.

IT’S BEEN ALMOST 8 MTHS SINCE MY EXPOSURE TO TOXIC MOLD. IT WAS IN OUR HVAC SYSTEM. AT LEAST 3FT OF BLACK-GREEN SLIMY WATER HAD ACCUMULATED IN THE INTAKE VENTILATION. I HAVE THREE YOUNG CHILDREN, BUT LUCKILY THEY DIDN’T SUFFER NEARLY HAS BAD AS MYSELF. THEIR BIGGEST COMPLAINT WAS HEADACHES, COUGHING, SNEEZING, AND WHEEZING. THEY WERE AT SCHOOL, SO THEY WEREN’T EFFECTED THAT BADLY. I SUFFERED FROM COUGHING, ALLERGY LIKE SYMPTOMS, NUMB LIMBS, MEMORY FOGS, POOR CORDINATION, NIGHT TREMORS, BURNING SENSATION IN MY ABDOMEN, FREQUENT URINATION, CHRONIC CONSTIPATION AND BLOODY MUCOUSY STOOLS, KIDNEY PAIN, EASILY BRUISING, FATIGUE, DEHYDRATION, SWOLLEN LYMPS IN MY NECK, AND ANXIETY. THE DOCTORS WERE ALL STUMPED. I HAD A CT SCAN, SHOWED NOTHING, HAD A UROGRAM OF MY KIDNEYS, SHOWED NOTHING. SAW A GI DOC. WHO BASICALLY TOLD ME I HAD IBS. IT WASN’T UNTIL MY HUSBAND, WHO WORKED LONG HOURS AND WAS AWAY FROM HOME ALOT, TOOK OFF FROM WORK TO TAKE CARE OF ME, AND STARTED DEVELOPING SIMILAR SYMPTOMS, THAT WE KNEW IF WAS SOMETHING ENVIRONMENTAL. WE GOT HOME OF THAT APARTMENT IMMEDIATELY. I STARTED TO FEEL MUCH BETTER WITH IN A COUPLE OF DAYS. CURRENTLY I STILL DEAL WITH BOWEL PROBLEMS, SIMILAR TO THAT OF IBS. THE MEDS I TAKE FOR IT HELP. I AM DEALING WITH RIGHT SIDED PAIN. IT SEEMS TO RADIATE FROM MY SIDE DOWN TO MY PELVIC REGION. I’M NOT SURE IF IT’S A RESULT FROM THE MOLD EXPOSURE, OR IF IT IS SCAR TISSUE FROM ALL THE PELVIC SURGERIES I HAD YRS AGO. I WANT TO BELIEVE IT IS, BUT I FEAR IT IS FROM THE MOLD. CAN MOLD EXPOSURE CAUSE CONSTANT FLANK, MUSCLE, AND PELVIC PAIN???

How long does it take for you to experience symptoms of mold exposure after being in direct contact, breathing it in for 8 hours a day, 3 days during this past week? I am trying to kill the mold that was growing on the walls and ceilings in a house I am moving into. I didnt think it would be so bad to use a bleach water solution, latex gloves, and no proper eye or respiratory protection. How can I tell if I have mold symptoms? Can someone please help? I am afraid to have my 5 year old son move into this house. The last thing I want is for him to get very ill.

I was 6 months in a sick building due to floding. first I was sleepy, then nose runny, then sinus and ears plugging, white in my eye went bood red, sense of balanc and smell off, breathing laboured and brain fog, cognitive disconnect thought I was getting alzhiemers…tremmers in spine, skin rough and scally, tongue swollen, face swollen, and red in the morning….by now anxiety, sleeplessness, fear…I learned that if I left home, in a few hours I was able to think again,,,which made me more axious as I learned the danger and couldn’t get help from my doctor…finally the health department gave me the number to’environment studies at Sunnybrook Hospital. What a releif to know I wasn’t losing my mind…that was the good news, the bad news was I had to get out, get rid of everything I owned that was fiber….which I did.I lived in a Bed and breakfast for 4 months till I found a home, started feeling better…then my muscles and bones and joints in the lower half of my body started to hurt…I’m now almost cripple, I can’t walk straight or without pain, and never sure that when I put my foot down if it willhold my wieght. Pain at nite, sleeplessness, the cycle once again and no one knows for sure what it is except ‘old age, wear and tear’ none of this was happening before mold exposure…I’m afraid I’ll be in a wheel chair, pain in my groin, muscles and bones in one leg and somtimes in both legs.

I have been diagnosed with MS. I have always thought that the correlation between the MS stats within Europe may have something to do with older buildings and moist climate. I was exposed to moldy environments as a child, now living in a home with mold issues, I find my symptoms have worsened.

I have been suffering from chronic upper respitory infections since January. I had pneumonia, bronchitis and a sinus infection all at the same time. From the time I went back to work in early Feb until I got sick again the end of June, I’ve missed at least a couple days a month due to illness. Usually intestinal issues and fever, and chronic fatigue. I became ill again the end of June, and have been off work now for 4 weeks. I have a chronic low-grade fever (99-100.5), that increases when I’m up and moving around. I have a chronic headache that medicine only seems to lessen somewhat, but not make go away. I have been diagnosed first with a very virulent virus. Two weeks later chronic bronchitis was added. A week after that a sinus infection was added. I was vomiting daily the first 2 weeks, now only suffering naseau. I’m also diabetic. My sugars are dropping regularly and I’m constantly feeling shaky and tired. I finished a round of antibiotics today that don’t seem to have made a difference. I am now trying to make an appointment to see my dr again on Monday and feel strongly that mold has played a role. I just found out today that the house I work in has mold infestation. Does this seem reasonable? What are some of the other treatment options? I can’t keep living like this. It takes all my strength just to water my plants and check the mail. Any other advice or just confirmation of what I think would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Juli

I have been exposed to high levels of toxic mold for 8 months.I now have a nodule on my lower left lung and severe asthma.I am tired all the time.I have probems breathing and unable to catch my breath.I had also rented a home and unknown to me it was highly toxic levels of mold.We had a air quality company that told us to get out. They told us that thw owners knew about it and had tried to cover it up.I am now sueing because it has cost me my job as a nurse and my medical insurance. My docs told me it would take 2-3years to get me better and they have to watch my lung for cancer. If you have a case like mine get a lawyer.

To all of you plz plz plz go see an “OCCUPATIONAL & ENVIRONMENTAL MEDICINE PHYSICIAN” I can not stress this enough, then after you do that go get you a lawyer and sue the hello dolly out of them! My family and I live in “private” Section 8 Housing. We moved here in July 2006. In June 2007, due to water intrusion in our basement since moving here, cause a black fuzzy stuff to grow on our basement walls. Management said it was mildew and pose no health problems to my children and me, and low and behold, illness after illness kept cropping up. I didn’t know what was wrong, but I thought I was getting Alzheimers, because I couldn’t remember anything, but most of all I could no longer walk up the stairs from to basement to our bedrooms. I went to my PCP and while I was waiting for her to do all the tests, that she claimed she could do instead of giving me a consult to see the “OCCUPATIONAL & ENVIRONMENTAL MEDICAL PHYSICIAN”, nearly caused me my life. Your PCP can not test your blood for toxic mold(s) exposure, you must go to the specialist as I have mentioned above. If it wasn’t for Dr. Harbut, I would prolly be dead today. He diagnosed me with Asthma and that my lungs are only operating at 45%. I am on all kinds of inhalers, and oral meds to help combat the mold reactions and help to improve lung production. My son is on 2 inhalers, and my daughter actually tested positive for the Mycotoxins in her blood. This stuff is no joke! I am trying like heck to get my State Representative for my county to support a Bill for Michigan
to come on board with California and New York in adopting the “Toxic Mold Law of Michigan”, because Michigan has no mold laws and as it stands, there are no laws, rules or regs on wat are unsafe levels of mold exposure, and the no good peeps aren’t doing a thing about fixing the water intrusion, high humidity which are the main two sources of toxic black mold. I am sure you all heard about the family in Texas who was just awarded $32,000,000.00 thats millions of dollars because the parents and their 5 children got Asthma and other mold related illnesses. The bad thing is toxic mold exposures can be prevented, by those claiming to be in charged using good of fashion common sense. Sure, no matter of money can bring back your good health, and nine times out of ten you will prolly die from you injuries that those that are supposed to be in charge are supposed to take care and give you a environment free of environmental hazards. Do not walk but RUNnnn to the nearest lawyer office and sue their pants off. You will need the money to buy all of those meds that your high cost health insurance cost if McCain (Bush dumb dumb Jr.) gets into office, not only will you cry about your failing health, but you will be crying when you see those high medical bills come rolling in. Contact your individual State Representatives and ask him/her to carry/support a toxic mold bill in your state to be submitted to the Senator of your district. I am emailing everyone in my contact list with a brief discription of our concerns and medical conditions in hopes that together we can work collectively in reaching our goals, because as it stands neglectful actions from those that are in charge of the environment you live, work, study, teach, etc….will prolly kill you and your family would have thought you died of natural causes. I hope you all stay safe. Peace
